Walgreens Moneymaker: Energizer Battery Charger

Mercedes at Common Sense with Money posted last week about the Energizer battery chargers being on sale for $7.99 with a $5 Walgreens rebate (#20) and a $5 manufacturer's rebate. It appeared that the sale price would only be valid last week, and I wasn't able to make it to the store to get it. Since the regular price is $9.99, though, it would still be free after both rebates.

I had some Register Rewards expiring, so I decided to go ahead and spend them on the charger. But when I got there I found that the sale price of $7.99 is valid all month, and there were also $2 peelies on the packages, making this deal a $4 moneymaker! (Pay $5.99, get back $10 worth of rebates.)

There were also $.50, $.75, and $1.00 coupons (depending on your region) in the 12/14 Smartsource if you can't find the peelies.

Sunday Sustenance

I Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

This verse came to mind earlier this week when I was browsing through a forum looking for new deals for the Wal-Mart deals page. There were some interesting discussions going on regarding the use of certain coupons. People were discussing using a coupon clearly intended for something more expensive on a cheaper item of the same brand. They were sharing which items they had found for which the coupon went through without beeping. At first I found myself reading the discussion, trying to discover whether I had the coupons being discussed, and curious as to what items were being purchased with them. I really had no intention of actually using the coupons in the way they were being discussed; I was "just curious." It was then that the Holy Spirit brought this verse to my mind.

The people with whom you associate will influence the way you think and act. If I were to consistently read discussions like the one I noted above, it would be very easy to start thinking that it actually is okay to use those coupons in an unethical way. "Everybody else is doing it, and they think it's fine," I could rationalize. But just because others are doing it does not mean that I should.

So my conclusion is this: Be careful to whom you listen! Remove yourself from the influence of anyone who does not have Biblical standards lest you find yourself tempted to adopt their unbiblical patterns of thought. Let the Bible be your guide for holy living!

How has the Lord worked in your heart this week? I'd love to have you leave me a comment or send me an email and let me know!

Crazy Coupon Capers

Okay, I told you I'd tell what happened later on at Walgreens. After last week's trip, I was bound and determined I was going to spend those 2 $5 Register Rewards.

My husband and I were out Saturday night, so I asked if we could stop by Walgreens and do a little shopping. I really did intend to just find a gift for someone or find something else I needed, but I just couldn't find anything I wanted to get. So, I decided that since I was in the store, I might as well make the most of it. I did 2 more moneymaking transactions and came out with 2 more $5 Register Rewards! I am a glutton for punishment! (If I can truly call making money punishment.)

I was then stuck with $20 in Register Rewards. Two were due to expire on the 20th, and 2 on the 27th. What was I going to do with those Register Rewards?!! Fortunately, I was planning on doing my shopping on Thursday the 18th. Unfortunately, there was not much good in the ad this week, and I could not find $20 worth of stuff worth buying.

I finally came up with an agreeable solution. Harris Teeter accepts competitor coupons, and I was planning to get some groceries there, so I thought "Aha! I will spend my Register Rewards on groceries!" But when I got to the register, I felt bad using $2o worth of competitor coupons since I know they will not get reimbursed for them. So I only used the 2 that were due to expire on the 20th. In the meantime, I still have $10 in Register Rewards that I need to use up by the 27th. Hopefully I will make it to the store before then.

Conclusion: I love hate love hate love hate Walgreens!!! There is a lot of money to be made there, but I am compelled to set foot in their store more often than I care to admit!

All right, now it's your turn! I want to know all about your couponing week. Did you get any great deals or have any interesting experiences? Link in or leave a comment and let me know!

My Drugstore Savings This Week

I forgot to take pictures! But here's the details anyway.

CVS:
I was going to take the week off from CVS this week, but I saw on the sign that they had their strollers on sale for $9.99. I need one for my son, so I stopped in to get one, but they didn't have any! So I ended up "buying" the glucose monitor with my free coupon, and getting my $5 ECBs. I also realized that I had a CVS coupon for the Colgate toothpaste, making it a $1.51 moneymaker instead of just $.51. So yet another tube of toothpaste has been added to my stash. (Come spring, I plan to have a giant yard sale, and get rid of all this excess!)

Walgreens: They didn't have any Progresso left on the shelves, so I got a raincheck for that. I got a pair of tights, some gift bags, and some Almay makeup. The Almay was B1G1 free, and they had some on clearance for $1.89. I used 2 of my $2 coupons from the KMart Beauty Book to get some overage on the other stuff I got.
Now, do you remember last week's Walgreens trip, when I was going to spend up all my Register Rewards, and ended up getting more? Well, let me tell you what happened later that night.

No, wait! I can't tell you now! You have to come back Saturday for Crazy Coupon Capers, and then I'll tell you!

$25 Restaurant.com Gift Certificate for $1.40

From now until December 22nd, you can get a $25 gift certificate from Restaurant.com for just $1.40!

Here's what you need to do:

1. Register with Cashbaq if you haven't already. (Cashbaq offers coupons for various online retailers, and they also offer either a percentage of money back or a certain dollar amount of money back when you make online purchases through their site. And you'll get $5 just for signing up!)

2. At the top right corner of the Cashbaq site you will see an advertisement for Restaurant.com.

3. Click "Buy Now". You will be redirected to the Restaurant.com website.

4. Select the restaurant for which you would like to purchase a $25 gift certificate and add it to your cart. Your subtotal will show up as $10.

5. Now add the word SANTA to the discount code box. That will deduct 80%, and your total should now be $2.00.

6. Fill in all remaining information necessary to check out.

7. After the purchase has been made, you will receive 30% of what you spent at Restaurant.com in your Cashbaq account ($.60).

Some giftcards on the Restaurant.com site have a minimum purchase requirement, so do make sure you are aware of that fact. But this is still a great way to eat out with your family without breaking the bank! Or you could always use the gift cards as Christmas gifts too.

If you haven't yet gotten your FREE Entertainment Book by using the Cashbaq site, you can find the details for that here.

Walgreens Moneymaker: Olay Regenerist

By using this rebate form, you can get a $15 gift card when you purchase any 2 Olay Regenerist moisturizers or cleansers. These products are Buy one, get one 50% off this week at Walgreens. The regular price of the 5 oz. cleanser is $7.49. Buy 2 cleansers for $11.24, and use the $5 off 2 coupon from the 12/14 Proctor & Gamble insert. Your total will be $6.24 plus tax, and you'll get back a $15 gift card!

According to the rebate form, the gift card will be good at over 100,000 retailers, so I'm assuming it will be some type of prepaid card (i.e. Visa, Mastercard.)

Update : It seems as if the $7.49 cleansers are not part of the Buy One Get one 50% off sale. However, the $9.99 cleansers are. So you'll pay $14.99, use the $5/2 coupon to make it $9.99, and get back $15 - still a moneymaker of $5.01.

Thanks, Laina!

10 Free Pampers Gifts to Grow Points

Do you collect points for the Pampers Gifts to Grow program? I do, and as of last night my account is 10 points richer - without my buying a single pack of diapers.

Get your 10 free points by entering WEAPPRECIATEU08 where you would normally enter the code from the Pampers package.

And until December 31st, shipping is free on all rewards. (They also offer free shipping on select gifts year-round.)

I'm saving up my points for either a free pack of diapers or a gift card, and those 10 points just put me that much closer to my goal.

Sunday Sustenance

I sit at this computer just having arrived home from the mall. Everything was abuzz with the excitement of Christmas, and there was even a live band in the middle of the mall playing Christmas songs. Folks were smiling and enjoying themselves, and many were singing or humming along with the words of the songs. But I am always saddened at this time of year as I watch all the people go by. I have to realize that many of them, although they are singing cheerfully the words of the Christmas carols, do not know the Christ of Whom they sing. They picture Jesus as a baby in a manger, and that's right where it ends.

But Jesus did not come to earth just to give an artist inspiration for a painting on a Christmas card. He came to earth knowing that He would be killed by the very people He came to save. He came because of His great love for me and for you. He came to "seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10.)

That was me! I was "lost". I had no hope of salvation because I could never be good enough to get to Heaven on my own. Even the good things that I do God says are as "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6.) I could try to earn my way into Heaven, but God requires perfection, which I could never possibly attain. If I commit even one sin in my whole life, God says that I am guilty of breaking His entire law (James 2:10.) But He loved me so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to earth to pay the penalty for my sin. I deserved to die and spend eternity in Hell, but Jesus took my place and died on the cross to pay for my sin! Then He rose from the grave 3 days later, and He lives forever so that I can live forever with Him!

That's what Christmas is all about, folks. Jesus was that baby in the manger so that He could one day die to pay for my sin that I might have eternal life. And He died for your sin too, dear friend. Have you ever admitted that you can never be good enough to get to Heaven on your own? Have you ever trusted fully in the payment that Jesus made for your sin? I am sure most of you are familiar with John 3:16 -- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. You can have everlasting life by simply trusting in the payment Jesus Christ made for you.

What does Christmas mean to you? Is it just about the baby in the manger, or is it about the Jesus who grew up and died on the cross for your sin? If you are not sure that you have the eternal life that Christ came to give, please read more here about how you can be sure. Also, feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

Crazy Coupon Capers

I had a fun (although brain-wearying) time at Walgreens this week! My mom and I both were trying to use up our Register Rewards so we wouldn't have to worry about them expiring, but when we made our purchases, our totals were over $25 again, so we got another $5 Register Reward! So I guess we'll just have to make another trip to Walgreens. (Their strategy is only semi-working, though; they want people to come back, but they actually want people to pay them, not vice versa, as I try to make a habit of when I go!) You can check out all the details of that trip here.

So what about you? Did you have any adventures or find any great deals with your coupons this week? Be sure to link in or leave a comment and share how you did!

My Savings This Week

I didn't do any shopping this week other than at CVS and Walgreens. But Walgreens alone was enough to make my brain hurt! Here's how I did at both stores:

CVS:

1 Powerade (not pictured)
8 bags of candy (already gave 4 to my mom)
3 bottles of Propel on clearance for $.40 each
2 Well Patch 3 pks. (had rain check to get them free, plus they gave back $1 ECB on each)
Total ECBs used = $13.98
Total out of pocket = $.90
Total ECBs received = $13.59
Walgreens:

I started out buying 3 Robitussin and 2 Arm and Hammer. My total was $4.95 plus tax and I got back 10 in Register Rewards - $5 for the "buy $25, get $5" promotion and $5 for the Robitussin.

Then I bought 3 more Robitussin, 1 more Arm and Hammer, and 2 Maybelline lip gloss. My total was $1.75 plus tax, and I got back 2 more $5 Register Rewards.

I don't always get a chance to get to Walgreens before my Register Rewards expire, so I wanted to go ahead and use them up the same day. But here's the annoying (not really) thing: The stuff I was buying was worth of $25, so I got another $5 Register Reward. Also, I only ended up using $15 of the $20 in Register Rewards that I already had, so I came home spending a total of $13 and some change, and I brought home $10 in Register Rewards, and I'll get a $2 rebate for the the Scotch tape.

Don't forget to come join in on Crazy Coupon Capers on Saturday and share the awesome deals you got with your coupons or any other adventures you had with your coupons!

2 Printable Coupons = 2 Free Products!

Get a coupon here for a free bag of Riceworks Gourmet Rice Crisps. You can check here to see which stores carry this product. I'm looking forward to trying these!

After you've fueled up on your free rice crisps, you'll have enough energy to get out to Bath and Body Works and use this coupon for a free Little Lambie with any purchase. Last time they had a coupon like this, I bought a trial size bottle of hand sanitizer for $1.50, and paid $1.50 for both it and the free product. It is being reported that there are also gift bags and nail files for $1.00 each.

Free Entertainment Book!

Edit 12/11 :
It looks like a lot of people are kind of confused about this deal. I guess I didn't do a very good job explaining it. I should have said that the book is free after you get your cash back in your Cashbaq account. Here's how David from Cashbaq explains it:

The book is marked down $10 at the Entertainment Book website. The other $15 ($10 cash back and $5 Cashbaq sign up bonus) are credited to your Cashbaq account a few days after you place your order. We'll then send it to you via check or Paypal. The good news is that you only need to earn $10 to get a check so you'll get it with this one order. The better news is that we are speeding up payment on Entertainment Books. (We usually have to hold payment for 90 days as stores need that to account for returns.) So there are two ways you save at Cashbaq: The first is all of the coupons like the $10 off you are getting on the Entertainment Book website and the other is the $10 cash back that goes into your Cashbaq account. I'm happy to answer any questions that anyone has about this or any other store we have. -David

Thanks so much for your help, David. And of course, you all can feel free to leave more comments or email me as well if you need any more help.

Here's how to get your very own 2009 Entertainment book for free:

Register with Cashbaq. You'll get $5 just for signing up. When you shop with Cashbaq you'll get paid back either a certain percentage or a certain dollar amount of your purchase. They also offer coupon codes that you can combine with the cash back offers.

In the case of the Entertainment book, their current promotion is $10 off with free shipping. Plus, they are also offering $10 cash back after you purchase it.

In my area, the Entertainment book is $25. (I believe it is $30 in some areas.)

So,
$25
- $10 Cashbaq promotion
- $10 cash back (make sure you click through the link on your Cashbaq account)
- $ 5 signup bonus

FREE!

If you are not familiar with the Entertainment book, it is jam-packed with coupons for restaurants, attractions, stores, airlines, etc. You'll also receive exclusive access to online offers and printable coupons. You can take a preview of the coupons in your area's book here.

(Thanks to Cheryl at SwapSavers for posting this deal!)

Fill Up Your Mailbox with Goodies!

I love requesting samples and signing up for product testing companies because it makes checking my mail so much fun! Today there were so many goodies in my mailbox that it felt like Christmas! Here's what I got:

  • A sweater from Christopher and Banks -- It was completely free due to a $10 off $10 coupon and free shipping. (I was going to post this deal so you all could get in on it, but by the time I found out about it I barely had time to get my own order in, much less post it in time for you all to order.)

  • Family Fun magazine -- My mailbox stays packed with magazine subscriptions that I haven't paid a dime for. I try to post these free magazine deals whenever I find out about them so you all can get them too.

  • A free sample of Jello Singles and a coupon for $1.00 off --This came from Kraft First Taste. You can sign up for this program here.

  • Coupons from Beech Nut --One of the coupons was for $5 off $5 or more, so that means I'll be getting some free baby food! Sign up for Beech Nut's e-newsletter here so you can start getting your own coupons in the mail!

  • My postcard from the Walgreens Easysaver program stating that my giftcard had been reloaded from the rebates I submitted last month --I made a profit of $4.70 on last month's rebates by using coupons and by receiving 10% bonus for selecting the gift card option. You can find out more here about the Walgreens program.

  • A sample of Bear Naked granola and a $1.00 coupon --This sample is still available here if you have not requested yours yet.

Sunday Sustenance

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I have been searching high and low for the best deals on Christmas gifts this year, but it seems every time I think I've found a nice gift at a good price, it doesn't end up working out. Well, it dawned on me that I had been trusting in my own skills as a "deal hunter" rather than trusting the Lord to provide. I had not one time asked Him to provide nice gifts that would fit into our budget. I confessed to Him for depending on myself rather than depending on Him, and the same day He unexpectedly provided 6 gifts for considerably less than what I had budgeted. For those of us who have trusted Christ to save us from our sins, we can and must trust Him with every other aspect of our lives. Just as we can do absolutely nothing to save ourselves, we can do nothing of ourselves in any other aspect of life. Our faith must rest entirely in Jesus Christ both for salvation and for daily living.

What has the Lord been teaching you? I'd love to hear from you either by a comment or email and have you share how the Lord has been working in your heart.

Crazy Coupon Capers

Sorry I didn't get to take any pictures this week. We were having company the same day that I did my grocery shopping, so I had to hurry and put everything away and get dinner made.

Here's how I did:

CVS: I picked up a couple of the monthly deals along with some clearance Propel. I ended up spending $1 ECB and $.04 cash for 3 ProMax bars and 7 bottles of Propel.

Walgreens: Almost everything was out of stock, but I found 2 of the Reach toothbrushes. I paid $3 (on a giftcard), and got back $6 in Register Rewards. I then used the Register Rewards to purchase some Vicks for my sick little boy.

Rite Aid: By utilizing the Gift of Savings promotion, and by scoring some great clearance finds, I was able to purchase 4 Christmas gifts and 2 birthday gifts for free!

Harris Teeter: I was disappointed when I got to the register only to find out that my store will no longer accept $/$$ before the other coupons. They also will now only allow 1 coupon on B1G1 items. I ended up spending $10 more than I expected to. I still was able to get $105 worth of groceries for $35.03.

So how did you do? I'd love to see some pictures since I didn't get to take any this week. Leave a comment or link and and share the deals you got with your coupons!
