I am joining many of you out there that are cleaning out drawers, closets, and rooms for the start of the new year. I have a list and am working on checking drawers, closets, and rooms off as I get a chance.
The kitchen was first!
This is what the kitchen looked like after the holidays. (and beware, I cleaned up NOTHING before these pictures!)
Cluttered…
grimy/food spattered white cabinets…
a hodpodge of décor that has been there way too long.
(and yes, I THINK, there is a fridge under all that stuff!)
So I cleaned out a few drawers and cabinets, took everything off the front and top of the fridge and determined to put very few things (if anything!) back. I also did a major cleaning of the cabinet doors and can’t believe how clean they look now!
And I had fun shopping the house (and my décor stash) for some new things to display in the kitchen!
Here’s the after!
I found a fridge under all that stuff. And I think this looks so much better. :)
I cleaned off the top of the fridge and found some simple accessories (not piles of paper products!) to put back on top. I love how neutral and simple this looks!
I will share next week how I did the “There’s no place like home platter.”
I rearranged a few things on the counters and took a few things off the counters. I wish I could take more things off my counters, but I don’t have room to store them elsewhere and I do use the things I have out frequently.
(Don’t ask about the cabinet doors. That is what happens when you buy a HUD house that is missing a cabinet door and you can’t find the same cabinet door ANYWHERE!)
The kitchen is actually on the “House goals list” for a major re-do in the spring – painted cabinets, new hardware for the cabinets, painted countertops?, and a new tile backsplash is what I am hoping! :)
I actually really like the little vignette I created behind the sink. (And I got one of those items while thrifting this past weekend – post coming!) This has always been a hard area to decorate, but I am liking this arrangement!
BEFORE
AFTER
I am loving it! And I have a bin full of stuff to donate. :)
And another benefit, having the kitchen clean and reorganized motivates me to KEEP IT clean! No accumulation of random STUFF on the counters, sink empty and clean, etc. Ever since I finished this project, there might be piles of paper on the coffee table, but the kitchen is spotless! :) That is my goal for the rest of the house!
So what have you been cleaning and organizing?

Great job!! I've been working on closets in the kids rooms! Amazing how quickly stuff gets out of control! Can't wait to hear what you have planned for the cabinets...I'm trying to figure out what I could do to spruce my kitchen up on a non-existent budget!
ReplyDeleteare your cabinets white? I am just repainting mine white but they are horrible! The hinges are horrible too so not sure if we are going to replace them or just replace the screws with longer/heavy duty screws.
ReplyDeleteStill trying to decide to take the plunge to paint the countertops. I HATE the counters, but they are in good condition. and no $ to replace them.
will keep you posted - believe me I will do a tutorial of whatever I do! :)
I've been working on moving my home office from a messy room into the former computer cabinet that was for my (now grown-up) kids who all have laptops now. The cabinet became a catch all for junk (their's of course!). When this project is complete, I will end up cleaning up the messy former office into a nice cozy TV room. Two spaces fixed up & organized! Hopefully, that will spur me on to other areas in the home!.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about trying the new product at Lowe's? It is where you can refinish counters to make them look like solid surface. I am not sure on the exact price. I would love to try it on mine.
ReplyDeletecmmcwilliams,
ReplyDeletedo you know what it is called?
Good job! I like the open cabinet, actually. And, I was going to mention the faux granite substance, too. Don't know what it is called.
ReplyDeleteLove it all! You did great!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMine looked just like that, stuff everywhere. I don't know about you but it felt great getting rid of all that stuff. great job! I'll be looking out for that tutorial for the plate.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I feel like my kitchen counters are magnets for clutter throughout the day. I love your end result...so clean and simple! I would love if you would link up to "Simplify for the New Year" at A Home Made by Kiki! Can't wait to see your kitchen when you redo the cabinets and countertops!
ReplyDeleteJust de-cluttered my kitchen too. It is a great place to start since we are in there all day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up at A Home Made by Kiki!!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks incredible! I love the vignette by the sink and the top of your fridge. So beautiful.
ReplyDeletethanks for linking to my party.

ReplyDeleteNice job! It looks so pretty now.

Looks great! And you have inspired me to clean off the top of my fridge...I think it is WAY worse than yours was!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm off to work on that right now!
I really love the way your kitchen turned out!
Your kitchen cabinets are beautiful! What I'd give for white cabinets! You did a great job decluttering! :)
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks wonderful. I love how clean and simple it looks. I've actually been thinking about taking some of my cabinets doors off, specifically the ones over the fridge. I then plan to paint the insides a contrasting color.
ReplyDeleteLove the kitchen cabinets they are beautiful. They really don't need anything but maybe new hardware if you have to change any thing about them....they would be even better with a new counter top....I need new counter tops bad. Trish
